Photography Lenses Tips for Photographic Effects

August 11, 2009 By: PhotoAdmin Category: Digital Camera Help

In photography, a lens is the eye that makes you see. How a photograph looks depends on the kind of camera lens you use. In ordinary point-and-shoot cameras, a lens is permanently installed in the body of a camera but in SLR or single-lens reflex cameras the lenses are interchangeable. This is where photography lenses tips will come in useful.

The different kinds of detachable lenses for SLR cameras are the normal lens, the wide angle lens, the telephoto lens, the zoom lens, the fisheye lens, and the macro lens. Each one is suitable for a certain photographic style. Each one will make a photo look different.

Some photography lenses tips to remember when shopping for a lens to suit your photographic work: macro lenses are for sharp close up photos of your subject, fisheye lenses are a kind of special wide angle lens with a unique angle of view, zoom lenses are different from fixed focal length lenses in that they have a mechanism for changing focal length, telephoto lenses are capable of focal lengths longer than the actual physical lens and are for capturing far away subjects without getting too close, wide angle lenses on the other hand have a shorter focal length and a wider than normal depth of view.

Normal lenses are for natural looking photographs, as opposed to the distortions of lenses with long and short focal lengths.

Whether your specialty be landscape photographs, portrait photographs, sports and action photographs, event photographs, wedding photographs, nature or wildlife photographs, glamour photographs or studio photographs, checking out some photography lenses tips will help you choose the right lens for the effects you are aiming for.

Simple Photography Glamour Tips

Simple Photography Glamour Tips for the Aspiring Photographer, Hair and Makeup Artists, and Lighting Technicians

Hair and make up artistry, lighting techniques, and photography come together in the making of a glamour photograph. Photography glamour tips are therefore not limited to photography techniques but a mix of all three. Glamour photography is best done with a team. Aside from the photographer himself, there is the model. After that are the hair and make-up artists and the technical lighting crew. Sometimes there is also the costume designer and a studio crew to build or provide props.

Photography glamour tips for photographers: When taking a photograph of a model, focus on the eyes. Background is just as important as subject; learn the tricks for manipulating a background. Use filters for effects. Existing light can be used to advantage. So can natural surroundings for the background.

Photography glamour tips for lighting technicians: lighting technicians take their cue from the photographer who directs everything about the set, so listen to the photographer. Understand what he wants to achieve. After that, it’s just basically about knowing your equipment. Photography is all about lighting. That is why lighting technicians are important for a professional glamour shoot.

Photography glamour tips for make up artists and hair stylists: A studio that specializes in glamour photography will have its own team of hair and make up artists. The role of these artists is to make the subjects, the “models”, look glamorous. Cosmetics are the key. Because a camera sees light differently than a normal human eye and a model will be under a lot of lights, makeup should be applied heavily. However, a natural look may still be achieved in the final photo. Be prepared with the powder. Be prepared to retouch.

Photography Studio Equipment: Expertise with Light

July 12, 2009 By: PhotoAdmin Category: Digital Camera Tips

Learn this on Photography Studio Equipment.

After exploring the features of the digital SLR by reading the manual many times over, photographers wonder what their next step should be. Mastering the concept of light would prove to be the most useful skill that it would be wise to consider investing on photography studio equipment.

The most important is lighting paraphernalia. There are two kinds of lighting, continuous and strobe. Strobe lighting is very much like the flash of the camera, flashing only when it is triggered by the camera. Strobe lighting is more difficult to learn how to use but it does not generate heat like continuous lighting. Continuous lighting is preferred especially those who do not have a digital SLR but white balance should be mastered before using this kind of lighting. The colors in the photo will not come out as expected if the white balance is not set properly. Continuous lighting comes in 3 different light qualities namely tungsten, halogen and fluorescent. The type of continuous light is the one that is considered before setting the white balance. There are also other components of photography studio equipment such as barn doors, soft boxes and beehive that all work towards directing and controlling light.

There is what they call the main light and the fill light. For portraits, there are also background lights and hair light. There are also reflectors that use different materials to control lighting more. Photography studio equipment is convenient in the sense that photographers can still take pictures indoors without worrying about light and background. They also do not need to be dependent on daylight and other sources of light because studio lighting equipment can be easily projected and controlled as desired. For food shots or other stills, the background is not that hard to improvise but for portraiture, serious photographers should invest on canvass backgrounds.
