will always be a good profession to pursue since there will always be more and more structures that needed to be captured in a frame either to sell or to promote through advertising. Real estate is the biggest industry that has a large demand of aerial photography since it’s the only way to best illustrate the value of a building or a piece of land.
There are many other uses of aerial photography and it’s not only confined in capturing buildings or beautiful landscapes it can also be used to make maps, like the famous Google earth. Or you can also use it to capture images of those who are into sky diving and other aerial recreations. Aerial photography will always be an important commercial and artistic skill since there are a lot of interesting patterns in the world that can only be captured from the air. The first aerial photography tips and advice is what kind of vehicle to choose, helicopter or airplane? This is the first and the most important one because obviously you cannot be air born without flying. For most professional aerial photographers, helicopter is the better than airplane because they have the option of flying without doors giving you freedom to use your camera and make your shots as you would in any other situation. It can also fly at any altitude and gives you the advantage of being closer to your subject. Helicopter can also be slowed down, hover or fly backwards to give you the most flexibility when making aerial shots.
Another aerial photography tips and advice is to do your aerial photography activity during the first or last hour of the day to take advantage of the sun’s angle that produce shadows and enable viewers to appreciate the shapes of the hills and structures of the building. Since in photography, you will find that the earth is flat and when you opt to shoot on midday conditions where the sun is at its highest, you will get flat pictures because there will be no shadows to play around in your subject.
Many are asking for advice whether they will use film or digital for aerial photography. Unless you are already skilled and or are an expert in taking photos from the air, my advice would be to use digital instead of film since you will have the added advantage of verifying your images in an instant if they were reasonably exposed or focused. Some find it hard to concentrate and make shots mid air and will not be at their sharpest because they are in unfamiliar environment of the flying aircraft which is another reason to use digital. Set your digital camera’s file format to “raw” so you can have greater flexibility to fine-tune your images when you get home using your computer.
Motion is another consideration in aerial photography and since when you are inside an aircraft; you will find that the vibrations can interfere with your ability to take sharp photos. You can choose a camera with faster shutter speed, higher ISO setting, wide telephoto lens, and in-camera image stabilization to reduce the influence of motion-blur in your aerial shots.
